As the first-elected City Attorney of Oakland, John Russo transformed the City Attorney’s office into a dynamic, effective advocate for the City and its residents. John created the award-winning Neighborhood Law Corps, an innovative model program in the state where neighborhood-based attorneys fight blight, drug hot spots, and other quality of life issues in the poorest areas of Oakland – creating healthier, safer neighborhoods. As a former Oakland Councilmember, Russo championed crucial issues such as zero tolerance for sexual harassment, protecting the rights of free assembly and speech in Oakland’s public areas, combating crime while stopping Constitutional abuses by law enforcement, and writing new open government laws.

Matt Gonzalez is a former president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who garnered over 47% of the vote in the 2003 San Francisco Mayor’s race. A prominent member of the Green Party, Gonzalez now leads a progressive law firm he founded, Gonzalez & Leigh LLP, and writes a regular column for Mesh Magazine in San Francisco.

The Parkway Speakeasy Theater is one of the East Bay's most respected community-oriented venues, offering a wide selection of second run commercial, vintage cult, specialty, Diaspora and local films as well as fundraisers for various grassroots organizations. It is California's first and so far only movie theater to offer a full menu including sandwiches, salads, pizza, beer and wine in a cabaret setting with sofas and comfortable cocktail lounge style seating. Most shows are 21 & over (except for Family Night, every Sunday, which is open to all ages), and general admission is $5. More info can be found on their web site, www.speakeasytheaters.com
