Kennah Wilson and her unborn child's death brings Councilman Larry Reid to the crime scene

You can read the original story here.

But this is a very disturbing story for me. I found a follow up on the Oakland Tribune.

Here's the follow up I read about tonight:

OAKLAND — The fatal shooting of 18-year-old Kennah Wilson and her
unborn child Friday night in East Oakland has left many residents searching for
answers. Councilmember Larry Reid (Elmhurst-East Oakland) plans to meet
Thursday with officials from code enforcement, the city attorney's office, the
Oakland Police Department and the redevelopment agency to address problems
emanating from the 82nd Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard hot spot, where Wilson
and her baby were killed. "We are trying to understand all this insanity
going on," Reid said. "People want answers and they want to see something done."
On Friday night, Reid went to the crime scene to talk with Wilson's relatives.
He said he also went to Highland Hospital, where Wilson and the four others
wounded in the incident were transported, to offer his support.
Wilson was
outside her apartment building standing with 30 to 40 other people when gunmen
opened fire on the group. Reid is hoping that during the meeting with city
officials they can take a closer look at the four apartment buildings in the
8200 block of MacArthur Boulevard, which have been the site of four shootings
since April.
On June 30, Zaire Washington, 24, was shot to death on the
street outside the same apartment building. That shooting was close to where
Shaneice Davis, 21, was fatally wounded by an errant bullet as she slept in her
apartment in April. She was hit by a bullet fired at a group of men
attending a memorial service for another slaying victim on the street
outside her home.
"Young people with the guns don't realize what they do by
taking an individual's life," Reid said.
Recently, the two-year anniversary
vigil for the killing of Lavar Crayton, on Aug. 28, was moved from the hot spot
on MacArthur Boulevard to his mother's house in Antioch. Crayton's mother, Lydia
Pettaway, said the area has become worse since her son's death in 2006 and
relocating his vigil was the safest alternative.
Reid said Thursday's
meeting's goal is to "think through the tough issues," and to share the outcome
with the community. The brainstorming session could help to shed more light on
the tragic death of Wilson and her unborn child, he added. Wilson, seven months
pregnant, had been excitedly preparing for an Oct. 12 baby shower, friends and
family said. Reid also heads the city's public safety committee and said
he is looking forward to the next meeting, scheduled in October.
"I want to
provide some answers and hope that folks will step up to the plate and share
information they have that could lead to the arrests of the shooters that have
committed this horrendous crime."
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are
offering up to $40,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of
the killer or killers. Anyone with information is asked to call police at
510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-3211 or 510-777-8572.
