OAKLAND — A woman was shot to death and seven other people wounded by gunfire in different incidents in a three-hour period early today in East Oakland, police said.
Police said it was too early to say if any of the incidents were related, but early indications were that they were not.
In the fatal shooting, a woman was found about 3:51 a.m. today lying on the sidewalk in the 2200 block of 90th Avenue at Dowling Street. She was taken to Highland Hospital where she died at 4:25 a.m.
Police believe the victim is 52 and lives in the area. But she had not been positively identified this morning.
Sgt. George Phillips said police have no witnesses, motive or suspects in the killing.
The slaying was Oakland's 90th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 87 homicides.
Details about the non-fatal shootings were sketchy.
The first happened about 2 a.m. when a man was shot in the foot in the 7800 block of International Boulevard by a man who fled in a car. No motive was known.
At 2:30 a.m. a man was shot in the arm in the 4800 block of International. No arrests were made and no motive was known.
At 2:40 a.m. a woman with a shoulder wound drove to the Eastmont police substation telling officers there she had been shot in an attempted carjacking at Havenscourt and Foothill boulevards. No arrests were made.
And about 4:41 a.m. four people were shot in the 5000 block of Foothill Boulevard, possibly inside a house.
All four suffered non-threatening wounds to their legs and feet, police said. Three adults went to one local hospital and a juvenile to another hospital. No suspects were arrested and information about a possible motive was not available.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in the homicide and up to $5,000 in each of the other cases. Anyone with information can call police at (510) 238-3821 or (510) 238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at (510) 777-8572 or (510) 777-3211.
