Speaking, er, writing of Councilmember Jean Quan and her pursuit of the office of Mayor of Oakland, she's having one of those exploratory meetings I referred to.

I an email from Maggie Kostoff of The Grand Avenue Breakfast Club which reads:

You are invited to join us-
District 4 Councilwoman, Jean Quan, is considering running for Mayor of Oakland.
I have scheduled an opportunity to meet with Councilwoman Quan.
I personally do not promote any candidates, but feel that this is rare opportunity
to share your opinions with a potential candidate.

She is meeting with Oakland citizens to discuss how you view the office of the Mayor, and to discuss your priorities for this important office.
This meeting is an open discussion for our local community.

When: Saturday, September 26, 1:30pm-3:30pm
Where: Lakeview Library (located across the street from Gold's Gym on Grand ave.)
Parking: You can park under the freeway; or Lakeview Elementary School, enter on Grand Ave, driveway to your right before you drive under freeway.

NOTE: It is important that you RSVP as seating is limited. If you have interest in attending, please contact me at maggie_kostoff@hotmail.com

Hmmm. Since its across from Gold's, one can listen to Jean, then get in a workout. But since she's going to take some of the parking space used by gym goers, she should make some kind of "ticket exemption" document that one can download from her website and put on their dashboard. Two hours of meeting time translates to about three hours of parking time.

Otherwise, Jean's little talk could be a disaster if a bunch of people wind up with $55 tickets!

Oakland Mayor's Race: LWV Forum Draws Oakland's Older Folks

Oakland Mayor's Race Forum first take. (Which means, there's going to be more of these posts on last night, because a lot was happening.) This just in: The Oakland Tribune's out of touch with Oakland. A number of attendees of the 450 estimated said they learned of the Oakland League Of Women Voters via "the newspaper." All of the people who made that statement were over 50 years old. Still, the forum, which attracted every candidate except Dr. Terrance Candell, was a success. The auditorium at 300 Lakeside Drive seats 380 people, so if you do the math, it was about 70 over capacity. The crowd was a happy mix of supporters of candidates and long-time observers of the Oakland political scene. The one complaint they had was there wasn't enough time to hear what the candidates were about. That wasn't because there were too many candidates, but due to the format. Either Oakland Tribune Editor Martin Reynolds or the League of Women Voter
