Nelson Mandela, Out Of Prison, Visits Oakland: Video: June 30, 1990

Nelson Mandela When Nelson Mandela was freed from prison in South Africa in 1990, he went on a United States "Thank You" Tour that included Oakland, California. You have to understand that, at that time I was just about three years out of grad school at UC Berkeley. And when I was there, protests against the apartheid regime in South Africa were common.   And violent.  One such protest shut down the campus, and brought out the police and the National Guard.  It's almost unbelievable to consider now that there were Americans who actually supported apartheid, and I spent a fair degree of time at the University of Texas at Arlington trying to explain to some white classmates, in a very calm way, why apartheid was just plain wrong. Dellums, along with other Oakland, Berkeley political leade

Oakland can be safe - protecting our people with cops in our community, lessening gun violence, building a responsive 911 system, and implementing smart community- based crime prevention. Oakland can create new jobs and a thriving econ

Paul Walker, Fast And Furious Actor, Dies In Car Crash

Paul Walker Paul Walker, the Fast And Furious actor, died very shockingly and unexpectedly in a car accident that happened as he was leaving a fund-raiser for his charity Reach Out Worldwide. He was just 40 years old. Walker was in 42 movies where he played a character, and another 53 times he played himself. Walker's first big movie was the 1999 Varsity Blues. But it was in Fast And Furious that his name became a household word. Walker is survived by his significant other Rebecca and a daughter. Walker left us too early. His work on earth helped people, so it's quite possible he was called to do something special in Heaven. Stay tuned.
