The YMCA of the East Bay today announced that their April 26 Healthy Kids Day festivities, a series of community events for kids and families at their Oakland, Richmond and Fremont/Newark locations, drew over 50% more participants this year than last.
“We
are especially pleased with the increase in participants this year throughout
the East Bay Y facilities. Thanks to the
efforts of all our participants and volunteers, guided by our dedicated and experienced
Y staff, we amplified participation and provided a healthy, fun and educational
experience for the communities,” said Robert Wilkins, President
& CEO of the YMCA of the East Bay.
More
than 1,200 Y members and community participants celebrated Healthy Kids Day®
by participating in circuit exercise stations, family fitness classes, jumpers,
a triathlon, informational health fairs and more.
Community
partners included Lifelong
(who performed blood pressure checks), Oakland Children’s Hospital, The Oakland Museum, East
Bay Regional Parks, Lifelong, YMCA
Camping Services, the Oakland
Library (with a book giveaway), Fremont Healthy Start Initiative, Tri-City
Health, Kaiser
Permanente, Master Gardener (with a tomato plant giveaway) and
more.
As
a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth
development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y holds Healthy Kids
Day (a national Y initiative) to teach healthy habits and inspire a lifetime
love of being healthy from head to toe. The Y aims to build on the incredible
potential inside each and every kid.
The YMCA of the East Bay, a local expert in the
pillars of healthy living, continually encourages the foundations of health by providing kids the
education and outlets to engage in active play, get together and building
strong relationships, enjoy the outdoors and make healthy eating choices.
