Roger Goodell will remain NFL Commissioner after the Ray Rice Video . Those talking heads who say he will be forced to resign don't know a thing about the National Football League or NFL politics. Roger was groomed by the NFL to be commissioner as far back as 1997. That was when I was working with then Oakland Raiders assistant Al LoCasale to bring back the 49ers - Raiders Preseason Games. It was Al LoCasale who told me over lunch at Luigi's that year that Goodell, who was EVP of Football Operations then, would eventually succeed Paul Tagliabue. When Commissioner Goodell and I first talked that year, it was for 45 minutes and about his father, the legendary politician Charles Goodell and about political history. What you must understand is this: The NFL protects it's own. And no one will be appointed commissioner from the outside. Moreover, there will be a woman commissioner of the NFL some day and that person will come from within the ranks of the league and not from outside of it.
