After several months of work, the mural at 1100 Broadway in downtown Oakland is finished. The work of Oakland artist Rocky Rische-Baird, it is a step back in time as much as it is a celebration of downtown Oakland and a landmark for 1100 Broadway itself. I talked to Rocky Rische-Baird about his new classic work.

Oakland artist Rocky Rische-Baird was commissioned to create a giant mural on the side of what will be the 1100 Broadway Building.  The skyscraper, developed by SKS Investments, is proposed to be built and finished in 4 years.   The historic Key System building will remain at the site, with the new structure surrounding it.  This press conference in the video was held to present the mural concept, it's creator, Rocky Rische-Baird, and Paul Stein, who is also featured in another video on 1100 Broadway on Oakland Focus.

The 20-by-80-foot mural will be installed at the base of the former Key System building at 1100 Broadway. As part of the redevelopment of the 1100 Broadway site, SKS Investments will restore and preserve the facade of the neo-classical structure which will be integrated into a new 20-story tower that will provide 310,000-square-feet of Class A office space and 10,000-square-feet of ground-floor retail.
