We were all very excited when Ron Dellumns became Mayor of Oakland as w wanted a fresh face and a new start. But since he assumed office, Mayor Dellumns has been largely quiet. But what's personally distressing to me is that when I call the Mayor's Office main number -- 510-238-3141 -- I've gotten a voicemail message during business hours on several occasions. It's happened so much that I now call another number I used when I needed to directly contact Jerry Brown.
I'm not giving that number out just yet, because once I do, the Mayor's Office may change it.
Oaklanders have echoed the same feelings I express here. Take a look at this forum exchange I found on Topix.com:

I dont think he was so bad......he brought a lot of new investment to town. the problem is he wasn't aware that the OPD was facing an unprecedented attriction with retirees and now we have this crime spree.....the city council are the boobs in this town. we've only had a mayor's office with any power for 8 years.....takes time.

You're sure right about "crap always seems to like to stick around Oakland," viz. Ron Dellums hustling back to become mayor - after an absence of 30 years! But Brenda Payton says he needs more time "to become familiar with Oakland's problems." (Huh?) If he didn't already know, then why did he run for mayor? And what can we possibly expect from him and his cronies?

i saw Dellum's speech to some Oakland business committee. he spoke for 45 minutes and did not say one specific thing about how he's going to change Oakland or it's business climate.
quite impressive actually. i don't think i could speak for 45 minutes and not mention at least one specific plan of action. he was just so vague. definitely a professional politcian ;-)
he talked about his "task forces" once again. WTF are those damn groups and what do they do? he won't even say. the guy's actually got task forces to control smaller task forces? huh? and my property taxes are paying for this?
then he goes into how together we can make Oakland this grand place that won't be secondary to San Francisco. that's great Ron! how about first getting our schools out of the gutter and prevent the escalating violent assaults (especially in Lincoln height) first????
the best part is he ended his speech by saying "you know i had this young black child come up to me and say make me proud mayor Dellums. i began to cry...." i can't remember the speech exactly, but i STARTED TO LAUGH!
WTF does this have to do with anything? puleeze, stop with the heart string tugging AND ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING RON!!!!
i actually miss Jerry...
Come on Ron, do something! Congratulations on the budget victory, but the people want to see you make Oakland's economy better and -- what they're really looking for is an economic homerun from you. They want a big initiative to get excited about.
Get to work.
Oh, and put a ful-time receptionist at the Mayor's Office to answer the main phone!
