Uptown Bar Owner Kevin Burns Attacked By Members of Mista Masta Tuesday Night

The Uptown Bar is known for hosting music groups of all kinds from rock to rap and hip hop, which pretty much means they're going to see all kinds of personalities. Tuesday, July 3rd was no exception. On that evening, Uptown hoted a hip hop group called Mista Masta, which is repped by ATM Records, at least that's true according to Uptown's calendar as it looked for this week -- that will change.

Anyway, the group got a little rowdy and after their performance didn't clear the stage to close. Uptown Manager and Owner Kevin Burns decided to take matters into his own hands, and got up onto the stage to tell the group it was time to clean up. As he did this, he was hit by a woman on one side and then clobbered in the head by a man, both unidentified, but also part of the group.

Kevin called the cops, but by the time they arrived, the Mista Masta clan was out of the door and gone.

When I conducted an online search, I learned that the only Mista Masta is someone also called Archie Lee. But that result comes up about 10 times or more. There's no other Mista Masta, so that may be the person who was at Uptown, though not necessarily the man who hit Kevin.

This is how he's described : "Archie Lee flaunts his down-south dialect quite extensively throughout Da Mista Masta, his debut album for Swishahouse. He's far from the first rapper to proliferate a Lone Star lexicon and drawling flow, but he's certainly one of the most flamboyant Texans out there, self-describingly "swangin'"

According to the MySpace page I found, Mista Masta is part of Swishahouse, which is based in Houston, Texas. I guess that means they're not a local group, because the above paragraph links Archie Lee to Texas.

So I guess the group ran back to Texas.

It's too bad that incedents like this happen at what's supposed to be a fun event. As I understand it, the group didn't get paid for their performance. But I wonder if Mista Masta and Archie Lee's parents would take kindly to the news that their sons and daughters are running around America assaulting people.

Geez.

Did you search the correct name of the group? Within this article, there are four different names: Mister Mista (Headline), Mista Masta, Masta Mista, Mista Mista.

Nope. Just one:

Mista Masta. At first, I did get confused but then corrected myself.

Mista Masta is the right one.

Oakland Mayor's Race: LWV Forum Draws Oakland's Older Folks

Oakland Mayor's Race Forum first take. (Which means, there's going to be more of these posts on last night, because a lot was happening.) This just in: The Oakland Tribune's out of touch with Oakland. A number of attendees of the 450 estimated said they learned of the Oakland League Of Women Voters via "the newspaper." All of the people who made that statement were over 50 years old. Still, the forum, which attracted every candidate except Dr. Terrance Candell, was a success. The auditorium at 300 Lakeside Drive seats 380 people, so if you do the math, it was about 70 over capacity. The crowd was a happy mix of supporters of candidates and long-time observers of the Oakland political scene. The one complaint they had was there wasn't enough time to hear what the candidates were about. That wasn't because there were too many candidates, but due to the format. Either Oakland Tribune Editor Martin Reynolds or the League of Women Voter
