Mario Juarez Pisses Off Norma: "Oakland City Crook" Hit Blog Launched

UPDATE: According to sources, "Norma" was an employee who was released for a reason that the Juarez staff would not explain. Moreover, neither Mario Juarez nor any of his staffers would confirm or deny the information given to this blogger. It's alleged that she falsified documents in a way that would have been damaging to Juarez business at the time in 2008. Other sources claim that "Norma" had a cozy relationship with Oakland Councilmember Ignacio De La Fuente - not sex cozy. Moreover, her email turned up only once in an Internet search - in this blog 2008 entry.

One rule that I have learned in politics and life is to first, clean up whatever mess you've made before you do anything else. Second, pay your dues. We all make mistakes but we also must admit to them, and then work to clean them up. That rule is especially true for Mario Juarez, who's running for the Oakland City Council District Five seat currently held by Ignacio De La Fuente.

What spurred me to write that paragraph is this "hit blog" someone made called "Oakland City Crook" and to which this blog is part of the blog roll over there -- to our surprise.

I discovered this while checking our traffic statistics and noticing an a blog with "Oakland" in the title I had not seen before, "Oakland City Crook."

It's a hard-hitting blog that leaves no stone -- it seems -- un-turned in telling every negative aspect of Mario's life. And because he's running for public office, such efforts like that one are fair game. The question is can he weather this unprecedented use of New Media to smear an Oakland political candidate.

The answer is "yes, if.."

If Mario uses New Media to defend himself and to be honest. Also he needs to apologize at the very least to "Norma" who is in this video:

The bottom line lesson is not to treat people in a way such that they feel taken advantage of and regardless of their position in life. The beauty of New Media is that it's the great equalizer in a democracy, or a dictatorship for that matter.

Mario has a lot of supporters; this is their first test. If they have any backbone at all, they'll stick with him during this dark time; if they're spineless, they will jump ship. But Mario has to show leadership to give them comfort that he can be a great elected official. He's got to deal with this and it starts with Norma.

I don't have a horse in the race, so I have to ask:

Is that woman "Norma" telling the truth or is she a De La Fuente plant? He packed the room with his own supporters, I read somewhere...
YES I AM SAYING THE TRUTH WHY WOULD I LIE? OR WHY COULDN'T MR. JUAREZ EVEN DEFEND HIMSELF? AND NO THERE IS NO ASSOCIATION WITH MR. DE LA FUENTE, I HAVE ON;Y SEEN HIM TWICE IN MY LIFE @ HOME DEPOT IN 2004 AND THE DAY OF THE VIDEO. NEVER EXCHANGED ANY WORDS OTHER THAN HI.

Oakland Mayor's Race: LWV Forum Draws Oakland's Older Folks

Oakland Mayor's Race Forum first take. (Which means, there's going to be more of these posts on last night, because a lot was happening.) This just in: The Oakland Tribune's out of touch with Oakland. A number of attendees of the 450 estimated said they learned of the Oakland League Of Women Voters via "the newspaper." All of the people who made that statement were over 50 years old. Still, the forum, which attracted every candidate except Dr. Terrance Candell, was a success. The auditorium at 300 Lakeside Drive seats 380 people, so if you do the math, it was about 70 over capacity. The crowd was a happy mix of supporters of candidates and long-time observers of the Oakland political scene. The one complaint they had was there wasn't enough time to hear what the candidates were about. That wasn't because there were too many candidates, but due to the format. Either Oakland Tribune Editor Martin Reynolds or the League of Women Voter
