Rumor: Recall Dellums Petition Circulating Around Oakland

I just got wind of a new rumor that there's a petition going around to recall Mayor Ron Dellums. I personally don't want this, and prefer the rough-and-tumble of an election to sort things out, but it's out there I'm told.

I think Mayor Dellums is trying to do better; to be better. Perhaps this is just the thing that makes a mayor go from not-so-hot, to good.

This wasn't the first time someone floated such a recall effort. In fact, just last year in August, word was going around about a then-new website called "RecallDellums" that is not up now.

Stay tuned.

I will sign it. Reluctantly. He's a tired old beltway hack. Thirty years ago he had energy and today he can't stay awake through an eight hour day. He has spent MILLIONS on ridiculous "studies" and staff funding. For what? Nothing has come from his office yet. Remember his statement: "I don't think the citizens of Oakland want to live in a police state" when he initially opposed more cops.... Oakland has one half the staffing of police that typical municipalities do of this size. We need 1200 officers.

I will look into what it takes to get a recall effort going for Dellums. We talk and complain on our neighborhood websites and no one does anything. Time to step up to the plate on this. Anyone else want to volunteer some time/effort

michael, get in touch with the person running the recalldellums website. one recall effort is better than 6. i looked up the law but couldn't tell how many sigs were necessary (in some cases as few as 10). ron acts as if he'll go quietly when asked but i don't buy it -- he's a master at election manipulation. just look at how barbara lee got in office years ago, ron created a series of special elections to seal the deal, costing the taxpayers millions.

btw the online petition has 250+ signatures already. if it hits a thousand the papers will start to give it press.

Oakland Mayor's Race: LWV Forum Draws Oakland's Older Folks

Oakland Mayor's Race Forum first take. (Which means, there's going to be more of these posts on last night, because a lot was happening.) This just in: The Oakland Tribune's out of touch with Oakland. A number of attendees of the 450 estimated said they learned of the Oakland League Of Women Voters via "the newspaper." All of the people who made that statement were over 50 years old. Still, the forum, which attracted every candidate except Dr. Terrance Candell, was a success. The auditorium at 300 Lakeside Drive seats 380 people, so if you do the math, it was about 70 over capacity. The crowd was a happy mix of supporters of candidates and long-time observers of the Oakland political scene. The one complaint they had was there wasn't enough time to hear what the candidates were about. That wasn't because there were too many candidates, but due to the format. Either Oakland Tribune Editor Martin Reynolds or the League of Women Voter
