I have it from a very good source that the Oakland Redevelopment Agency is upset with SMG Coliseum, the managers of the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum, because they charge the organization is withholding information needed to complete a bid for Oakland to host a FIFA World Cup Soccer Game.
I believe it because the source is a good one and SMG Coliseum has done this before. To me. When I was working to bring the 2005 Super Bowl to Oakland.
What happened in my case was that I needed specific drawings of the Coliseum to have for the Super Bowl bid package we at the Oakland Alameda County Sports Commission were creating.
Sally Roach, who was representing the Stadium Management Group at the Coliseum at the time - 1999 - told me they didn't have the drawings. Deena McClain, who was then and is now again working as the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Administrator, was led to believe that a former Coliseum employee had stolen the drawings.
That's was until I got a call out of the blue from the man who was a consultant to the Coliseum and SMG who told me he had the drawings. So we talked for a long time. Then he called me back to say that Sally Roach said I couldn't have the drawings!
Getting dizzy now?
I was livid. So I called both Sally and then-City Manager Robert Bobb and said that she should be fired from SMG for withholding that information. I got the drawings which were on a CD and valuable to Anderson Consulting Team. And the drawings can be seen in the 2005 Oakland Super Bowl Bid Book of which I still have a copy.
Now it seems this craps' happening all over again. It points to how little management oversight the City of Oakland has over the Coliseum. The City Auditor needs to do a top-to-bottom analysis of the Oakland Coliseum.
I wish Courtney Ruby would be the only Oakland City Auditor to have the courage to do this: I've told the last two to do so, and they would not touch the facility.
Why?
With something that uses taxpayer dollars and hosts three major sports teams, isn't right to know where our money's going and why? That's Ruby's job. It's also the job of the Coliseum to help the City of Oakland bring money-making sports events to it.
I understand that this Oakland Coliseum plan is going to get looked at by Major League Baseball:
I just wonder who's going to pay for it in this economy?
Stay tuned!
