NOTICE - FULL STREET CLOSURE - BEALE STREET BRIDGE ( BETWEEN MISSION & HOWARD STREETS), APRIL 5-8

WEATHER CONTINGENCY DATE, APRIL 12-15

Beale Street will be closed April 5-8, to install the third and final traffic bridge on Beale Street, between Mission and Howard Streets.

Beale Street will be closed to through traffic and pedestrians beginning Friday at 7:00 PM and will reopen Monday at 5:00 AM.

What to Expect This Weekend (3/30/13 – 3/31/13):

Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets): This weekend there is no construction work scheduled for Saturday, March 30 or Sunday, March 31.

Central Transit Center Site (Between First and Fremont Streets): This weekend there is no construction work scheduled for Saturday, March 30 or Sunday, March 31.

Western Transit Center Site (Between Second and First Streets): This weekend there is no construction work scheduled for Saturday, March 30 or Sunday, March 31.

Weekday Work (Monday 4/1/13 - Friday 4/5/13):

Night Shift:

Excavation and Internal Bracing Work:

Beale Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): There will be bridge preparation work Monday through Friday with work scheduled from 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. The Beale Street temporary bridge preparation has resulted in construction impacts with traffic lanes reduced from three lanes down to two until mid April 2013. Beale Street traffic may also be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gate to Beale Street.

Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Fremont and Beale Streets):​ There will be construction access trestle preparation work Monday through Friday with work scheduled from 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM with excavation and trucking Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Fremont Street and exit the construction gate at Beale Street.

Central Transit Center Site (Between First and Fremont Streets): This week excavation and trucking is scheduled from Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Welding of trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing scheduled from Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter from the construction gate located at Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Western Transit Center Site (Between Second and First Streets): This week excavation and trucking is scheduled from Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Welding of trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing scheduled from Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Day Shift:

Excavation and Bracing/Below Grade Transit Center Construction:

The project's internal steel bracing, excavation and trucking of soils has become a 24 hour activity with excavation down to an average depth of 60 to 65 feet. The excavation progresses from the west transit center site to the eastern end for the new Transbay Transit Center building and will continue through the end of 2014. The western zone excavation and bracing is in progress with a target completion of mid 2013, the below grade contractor will soon start construction of the lower level concrete foundation. The central Transit Center Site internal steel bracing, excavation and trucking of soils is in progress and continues until the end of 2013. The eastern Transit Center Site construction access trestle, excavation and trucking of soils have commenced and will continue into early 2014.

Beale Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): There will be bridge preparation on the east side will work day and night Monday through Friday with work scheduled from 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Some demolition of the surface level concrete will be performed this week during the day shift. The Beale Street temporary bridge preparation has resulted in construction impacts with traffic lanes reduced from three down to two lanes until early April 2013. Beale Street traffic may also be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates.

Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets): This week the drilled piers are being installed for future construction of the access trestle and to support excavation and bracing. Some demolition of the surface level concrete slab will be performed during the day shift resulting in vibration and noise. Trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at Beale Street.

Central Transit Center Site (Between First and Fremont Streets): This week excavation and trucking is scheduled from Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Welding of trestle steel and cross lot steel bracing scheduled from Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter from the construction gate located at Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Western Transit Center Site (Between Second and First Streets): This week excavation and trucking is scheduled from Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. Trucks will enter from the construction gate located on Howard Street (between First and Second Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Underground Utilities/Trenching Work:

Mission Street (Between Beale and Second Streets): There will be underground utilities work and traffic lane closures daily, Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

What to Expect Next Weekend (4/6/13 – 4/7/13):

FULL STREET CLOSURE - BEALE STREET BRIDGE INSTALLATION: Friday, April 5, at 7:00 PM. No through traffic or pedestrians will be allowed on Beale, only local access will be permitted. Beale Street will reopen Monday, April 8, at 5:00 AM.

WEATHER CONTINGENCY DATE: If necessary, due to weather, the bridge installation will be moved to the following weekend, April 12-15.

Beale Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): This weekend the Beale Street temporary bridge installation work will be performed. When Beale Street reopens Monday April 8, 2013, there will continue to be construction impacts with traffic lanes reduced from three down to two lanes until mid April 2013. Beale Street traffic may also be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates. The Beale Street temporary bridge requires closing of the east sidewalk between Mission Street and Howard Street until mid April 2013. Pedestrians are to use the west sidewalk and are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.

Eastern Transit Center Site (Between Beale and Fremont Streets): This weekend there is no construction work scheduled for Saturday, April 6 or Sunday, April 7. However; dependent on contractor progress excavation and trucking may be performed Saturday April 6, between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. On Saturday night and Sunday the hours of operation and level of activity may be reduced. There may also be bridge preparation work. Beale Street traffic may also be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates onto Beale Street.

Central Transit Center Site (Between First and Fremont Streets): This weekend there is no construction work scheduled for Saturday, April 6 or Sunday, April 7. However; dependent on contractor progress excavation and trucking may be performed Saturday April 6 between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. On Saturday night and Sunday the hours of operation and level of activity may be reduced. Trucks will enter from the construction gate located at Fremont Street (between Mission and Howard Streets) and exit the construction gate at First Street (between Mission and Howard Streets).

Western Transit Center Site (Between Second and First Streets): This weekend there is no construction work scheduled for Saturday, April 6 or Sunday, April 7. However; dependent on contractor progress excavation and trucking may be performed Saturday April 6, between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. On Saturday night and Sunday the hours of operation and level of activity may be reduced. Detours, Street and Sidewalk Closures:

The following streets will be temporarily impacted due to project activities. So you can plan ahead, please review the affected streets below:

When Beale Street reopens there will continue to be construction impacts to traffic lanes reduced from three down to two lanes until mid-April. Beale Street traffic may also be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks exiting at the construction gates. The Beale Street temporary bridge requires closing of the east sidewalk between Mission Street and Howard Street until mid April 2013. Pedestrians are to use the west sidewalk and are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.

Fremont Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): Fremont Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks entering and exiting at the construction gates. Construction flaggers and SFPD 10B Officers will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. Pedestrians will continue to use west sidewalk of the temporary bridge between Mission and Howard Streets. Pedestrians are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross. NOTE: The Fremont Street temporary bridge traffic signal will be activated mid block between Mission and Howard Streets at the First Street Bridge and construction access trestle intersection in March or April 2013.

First Street (Between Mission and Howard Streets): First Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks entering and exiting construction gates. Construction flaggers and SFPD 10B Officers will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians. Pedestrians will continue to use west sidewalk of the temporary bridge between Mission and Howard Streets. Pedestrians are urged to please use the crosswalks at the Mission and Howard Street intersection to safely cross.

Natoma Street (Between Fremont and First Streets): Natoma Street (between Fremont and First Streets) has been reduced to one lane, one way (west bound), all vehicles will enter from Fremont Street and exit at First Street. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.

Natoma Street (Between First and Second Streets): Natoma Street (between First and Second Streets) has been changed to a dead end street for the life of the project with no vehicle access through Natoma Street from Second Street. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.

Minna Street (Between First and Second Streets): Minna Street has been reduced to one lane, one way (west bound), all vehicles will enter from First Street and exit at Second Street. There will be no parking along Minna Street between First Street and 130 feet east of Second Street for the life of the project. Local vehicle and pedestrian access will remain available.

Mission Street (Between First and Second Streets): There will be underground utilities work and traffic lane closure daily, Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Howard Street (Between Fremont and Second Streets): Howard Street traffic may be impacted occasionally during construction with trucks entering and exiting the construction gate at Howard Street (between First and Second Streets). Construction flaggers will be assigned during peak hours to assist with traffic and pedestrians.

Community Meeting

Excavation of the Transbay Transit Center site is now in full swing and contractors are preparing to install the third and final traffic bridge on the weekend of April 5-8. All around the jobsite, we are bustling with activity and would like to invite you to come to our next community meeting to see what exciting things are currently taking place. Join us on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 to learn more about construction activities, the final temporary bridge installation, mass excavation and internal bracing, street closures, and the hours of activity. The community meeting will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM at the TJPA’s offices located at 201 Mission Street, Suite 2100. We appreciate that you are taking your lunch hour to learn more about this innovative project, and would of course welcome you to bring food or drinks to this meeting.

The Transbay Archaeology Exhibit

On Friday, March 29, the Transbay Archaeology Exhibit is returning to its original location in the lobby of 201 Mission Street (corner of Mission Street and Beale Street). The exhibit will be open during regular business hours from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM and will be on display through the end of June.

Oakland Mayor's Race: LWV Forum Draws Oakland's Older Folks

Oakland Mayor's Race Forum first take. (Which means, there's going to be more of these posts on last night, because a lot was happening.) This just in: The Oakland Tribune's out of touch with Oakland. A number of attendees of the 450 estimated said they learned of the Oakland League Of Women Voters via "the newspaper." All of the people who made that statement were over 50 years old. Still, the forum, which attracted every candidate except Dr. Terrance Candell, was a success. The auditorium at 300 Lakeside Drive seats 380 people, so if you do the math, it was about 70 over capacity. The crowd was a happy mix of supporters of candidates and long-time observers of the Oakland political scene. The one complaint they had was there wasn't enough time to hear what the candidates were about. That wasn't because there were too many candidates, but due to the format. Either Oakland Tribune Editor Martin Reynolds or the League of Women Voter
