Oakland Evictions Story: NBC Bay Area Targets Black Exec, Not White Mayor Oakland Evictions, and more specifically illegal evictions, have been a long-standing problem. According to the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project, the problem is over 10 years old and has only worsened over the last four years. So, you would think the media would ask the elected officials what is going on? But rather than do that, NBC Bay Area picks on a black department head, while the Mayor of Oakland has curried favor with some of the owners of the real estate firms that are doing these unlawful detainers. (“Oakland Housing Director Defends Agency After An NBC Bay Area Investigation Exposes Lack Of Oversight Relating To Wrongful Evictions”). Michelle Byrd took the fall for the Mayor of Oakland and the Oakland City Council, when it’s really the fault of Oakland elected officials. NBC Bay Area didn’t even bother to talk to the Mayor Of Oakland, Libby Schaaf. If Libby were African American, the bet here is that the media would have put her face on the problem. Stay tuned.

Cal Women's Rowing Team member Jill Costello passed away from complications due to lung cancer on June 24th 2010 and at the age of 21. A San Francisco event and run called Jog For Jill has been established and will be held this Sunday, September 12th at 5 PM. Two members of the Cal Women's Crew team were at the Cal vs. Davis football game wearing Jog For Jill shirts, and were kind enough to provide the video interview above.
