Piedmont, CA Measure G And H Only Alameda County Election Race - Video

Piedmont, CA Measure G And H Only Alameda County Election Race There are only two ballot initiatives up for vote in all of Alameda County, and both are in Piedmont, California. Measures G and H are for the Piedmont Unified School District. What is posted online is, in part, below: Measure G and H Parcel Taxes Measure G & H – November 5, 2019 Measure G Renewing Local Funding for Piedmont Schools On March 5, 2013, citizens approved the current School Support Tax, which is in effect until June 30, 2021. Measure A superseded and replaced the Measure B Parcel Tax, which was set to expire on June 30, 2014. Measure A was a renewal of Measure B and maintained Piedmont’s excellent quality of public education by attracting, training and retaining qualified teachers, maintaining small class sizes, and protecting instructional programs and services, including art and music, world language, advanced placement, school libraries, classroom technology and student counseling. The depth and range of these programs have supported student achievement and preparation for success after graduation. Student achievement scores rank among the best in the State and students are admitted to, and successful at, excellent colleges and universities. Parcel taxes have proven crucial to the District’s financial health, currently providing over a third of total District revenues. Supporting Academic Excellence in Local Schools This source of funding is set to expire next year, and without renewal, our schools will lose approximately $10,414,176 annually to support Piedmont schools. Measure G will be used to: Continue to attract, train, and retain high-quality teachers and educational support staff Protect instructional programs and services, including art and music, world language, advanced placement, school libraries, classroom technology and student counseling. Maintain small class sizes Measure H Uniform rate of $0.25 per square foot of building improvements per year and shall be levied against each parcel of taxable land located wholly or partially within the boundaries of the District. Passage of Measure H would result in an additional $2.6 million to the Piedmont schools. Importantly, the entire community would share the burden of an increased tax (although larger properties would pay more and smaller properties less – $139 per year for the smallest residential parcel). Measures H will be used to: Provide additional local revenue that cannot be taken by the State and will maintain Piedmont’s excellent quality of public education by attracting and retaining high quality teachers and educational support staff. Fiscal Accountability Provisions of Measures G and H All funds raised by the measure would continue to be controlled locally All funds would go to our local schools and could not be taken away by the state The measure would require independent citizen oversight to continue to ensure the funds are spent as promised The full link is here: https://ift.tt/2WPIwJF Stay tuned.

Oakland Mayor's Race: LWV Forum Draws Oakland's Older Folks

Oakland Mayor's Race Forum first take. (Which means, there's going to be more of these posts on last night, because a lot was happening.) This just in: The Oakland Tribune's out of touch with Oakland. A number of attendees of the 450 estimated said they learned of the Oakland League Of Women Voters via "the newspaper." All of the people who made that statement were over 50 years old. Still, the forum, which attracted every candidate except Dr. Terrance Candell, was a success. The auditorium at 300 Lakeside Drive seats 380 people, so if you do the math, it was about 70 over capacity. The crowd was a happy mix of supporters of candidates and long-time observers of the Oakland political scene. The one complaint they had was there wasn't enough time to hear what the candidates were about. That wasn't because there were too many candidates, but due to the format. Either Oakland Tribune Editor Martin Reynolds or the League of Women Voter
