Oakland Uses Lake Merritt For Socializing, Rendering Social Distancing Policy Useless

Oakland Uses Lake Merritt For Socializing, Rendering Social Distancing Policy Useless - Video

Oakland Uses Lake Merritt For Socializing, Rendering Social Distancing Policy Useless We have a problem in Oakland. For years and decades Oaklanders have used Lake Merritt to socialize. Today, in this Shelter-In-Place impacted society, there are those who want to get out and socialize. They do so with friends and family. We see this and assume that social distancing is not working. The problem is that what people use the Lake for runs counter to social distancing. So, we have to figure out another way. Closing the Lake is draconian because people will go out to places that are less spacious and therefore put them even closer to others. It may be better to make sure people who need masks can get them around town. Sending people to the Lake to get a mask only crowds the Lake. Also, another way might me to reward those who do go to the Lake or go out around Oakland, but remain in their cars. Perhaps working with the State of California to provide special food purchase vouchers presented to those who use their cars to SIP while out. Kind of melding the driven through eating experience with SIP. It’s an idea I will work on and flesh out. The main problem to work out is voucher funding and distribution methodology. It would help eateries gain business and keep us safe at the same time. Stay tuned. On Oakland News Now: https://ift.tt/2LexSHr
