Loring Cafe On Grand In Oakland A Wonderland - When It Opens

In Loring, Oaklanders have a great new cafe and restaurant to look forward to - when it opens. Loring's - or "The Loring" - is located on Grand Avenue between Broadway and Webster in Downtown Oakland. It has the best interior of any place of its kind in Downtown Oakland. The trouble is, Oakland's building inspector is taking a ton of time in approving it. Here's the video:

The California Center For Sustainable Energy has announced that it hired Rear Adm. Len Hering as its new Executive Director. Why Is The Oaksterdam University Mural No More?

Oaksterdam University's symbol is gone. The incredible 7,300-square-feet mural that came to define Oaksterdam University, was a highly visible work in Downtown Oakland, and became a good representation of the new Oakland itself, is suddenly, inexplicably, gone. Right now, Kansas City just adopted the system for its towing matters, and San Diego and San Francisco use it, too. It's time to have an alternative to the trip one makes down to A&B Towing in East Oakland. That has gone on for too long. AutoReturn. Oakland should have it. Reelect Larry Reid For Oakland City Council District 7

Frankly, this should not be an issue, but Oaklanders living in District 7 should reelect Oakland’s long-time, legendary City Councilmember, and Council President Larry Reid. This blogger has known Larry since 1995, when he was then the chief-of-staff for then-Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris. Larry has always cared for those most in need in Oakland, and has worked to give his area what he feels it needs most, and does: jobs and activities. Oakland City Council Race Look Before Election Day

In this Oakland News you know it’s just 48 hours before election day when on Saturday night, you see Nyesha DeWitt’s campaign truck parked on Broadway at 10 PM. Have to admit, this blogger’s never seen a U-Haul used to get out a candidate’s vote, but that was the case here: So with that, let’s assess the Oakland City Council races, starting with a video interview I conducted with Lynette McElhaney, who’s running for the Oakland City Council’s District Three seat and another one with comments I made while talking with her at the new Lakeview Cafe on Lakeshore next to Lake Merritt (say that three times real fast). Anaheim came forward with an aggressive plan to host WonderCon, and so this year the common traffic patterns have flipped: Bay Area WonderCon goers traveled to Anaheim, but wondered when it would come back to San Francisco. Mitt Romney Has Not Presented His College Transcripts

Some ask about the President's college transcripts, but not Mitt Romney's. He's never presented them. Where are Gov. Mitt Romney’s college transcripts? For all of the questions about President Obama and his college transcripts, which are not sealed by the way, no one has asked to see Governor Mitt Romney’s college transcripts.  Here’s where silliness ensues. Because it’s one thing to know that Romney graduated in a certain year, or that he was cum laude, but its another thing to know exactly what classes Mitt took and what grades he got. There’s no bit of information on that at all. Nothing. For more, see Zennie62: Mitt Romney Must Show College Transcripts Mitt Romney Must Show College Transcripts

CPUC Picks George Mitchell As Mediator Behind San Bruno Mayor's Back

The California Public Utilities Commission is in a lot of hot water. On Tuesday, the CPUC announced that it selected Former Senator George Mitchell as mediator in the ongoing talks to determine the fine to be levied against Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The trouble is, only PG&E knew of Mitchell’s appointment and no one else, and Mitchell’s law firm, DLA Piper, has a number of utility clients. The move places the CPUC in the position of looking like it’s trying to engineer a low fine for California’s utility giant. for more, see: http://zennie62blog.com/2012/10/18/san-bruno-fire-cpuc-pge-pick-george-mitchell-mediator-victims-reps-94089/

Oakland Raiders 2012 Season Is Lost

The Oakland Raiders: time to push the panic button and declare this 2012 Season lost. The Raiders were clobbered by the Miami Dolphins 14 to 35, and under the crushing weight of a Miami running game it could not stop, nor had the offensive firepower to match. Last week, the Raiders lost to the San Diego Chargers showing an anemic offense that could not push the ball downfield and into the endzone. Now, here come the Steelers.

Oakland Mayor Quan Says A Lot At Democratic Convention

As reported at Zennie62Blog.com , Oakland Mayor Jean Quan gave this vlogger an extensive interview. Even more interesting, the talk was done in the middle of the California Delegation and during Newark Mayor Cory Booker's rousing speech. In the interview, Quan explained that she was at DNC 2012 on her "own dime," and that the Obama White House was very helpful to big city Mayors, even to the point of setting up a special office to help them. She also took time to blast California State Controller John Chiang for holding up the Oakland Army Base Project. The video is above. Stay tuned.

Chicago Police Give Robberies Little Attention

It's one thing to say "Don't get robbed in Chicago," but if you do, will the Chicago Police help you at all? From the account written over at Zennie62.com, the answer is not only "not really," but they will not help you because robberies are given a low priority unless you're injured. That's right. You have to have been wounded for your robbery report to get any priority at all. On top of that, the robbery suspects are at large as of this writing. Oakland Mayor Jean Quan Blows It At 100-Blocks Press Conference

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan returned from a trip to Brazil and in general a number of travel obligations that kept her out of Oakland far more than she was in it over the last five months, and to a swarm of controversy about her 100-blocks initiative that, on Wednesday June 27th at 2 PM, degenerated into the most disastrous press conference this blogger has ever seen in Oakland's mayoral history. I've been involved in Oakland politics in depth and either as columnist, Mayor's Aide, consultant, or video-blogger, since 1990, and through Mayor Lionel Wilson, Elihu Harris, Jerry Brown, Ron Dellums, and Jean Quan, and this presser - which included City of Oakland Chief Administrative Officer Deanna Santana, Assistant Chief Of Police Anthony Toribio, Mayor Quan's Senior Public Safety Advisor Megan Harmon, and Robert Batty of the consulting firm Forensic Logic (who's website is in "stealth mode" as of this writing) - by Quan was the worst I've ever seen -

Oakland Army Base Gets Preliminary City Council Approval

The Oakland Army Base Project - the long-dreamed of plan to redevelop a long-dead 366-acre land assembly that was once the home of the U.S. Army for the San Francisco Bay Area, and the focus of a competition won by Oakland-based California Capital Group two years ago - has moved a giant step closer to reality after the Oakland City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that would accomplish the following: 1) Approve the city administrator to complete agreements with the Port Of Oakland, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), and a set of developers, firmly establish the use of $242 million in State Of California funds, and commit $22.5 million in City of Oakland funds to match a grant from the Trade Corridor Improvement Fund, which would total 54 million for the project in addition to the state funds mentioned. 2) Approve a plan that essentially transfers all land development control to the firms of Prologis CCIG Oakland Global, LLC, but under the City Of Oakla

After two months of back-and-forth texts, Ross agreed to meet me for a wide ranging interview conducted at the Royal Ground Coffee Cafe at 2060 Fillmore Street in San Francisco's Pacific Heights on Father's Day. Megan Avalon Female Bodybuilder Webcam Fitness Model Featured Video

As of this writing, if you type "fbb" in YouTube, a selection of female bodybuilder videos is presented.  But there's one at the top that's the "featured video" - this one I made of my friend Megan Avalon in 2010. I'm proud to say that it's generated almost a half-million views over that time.  I think what's so popular about it is it's an up close look at fbb, and just as one might see her webcam style. Also, this video, made in Oakland, captures Megan at her buff-est levels of development.  I have always felt that Megan was holding back on the development of her biceps, which are well-defined in this video at 15 inches.  Imagine if they would look like at 17 inches, and how they would accentuate her breasts, which already have been augmented. Just saying.

NBA Commissioner Stern Tells Oakland SF Golden State Warriors Arena Easy Commute

Oakland Warns NBA Warriors As SF Arena Plan Introduced

Will Oakland sue the Golden State Warriors? This 17-minute video was made based on interviews held on Tuesday May 22nd and at the Golden State Warriors Press Conference at San Francisco Piers 30-32 to announce plans to construct a $600 million basketball arena on that site, and to be opened by 2017. On Tuesday, I talked to San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, NBA Commissioner David Stern, Warriors Owners Peter Guber and Joe Labob, Warriors Legend Al Attles, and in Oakland, Councilmember Ignacio De La Fuente, who's a key member of the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Joint Powers Authority. The main line of questioning by me centered around possible litigation by the City Of Oakland to block the deal. Also, Ignacio De La Fuente reminds all that as of now, the Warriors still owe Oakland $105 million from the bond deal to build the arena in Oakland that was opened just 14 years ago in 1998. The Golden State Warriors San Francisco deal will be all private money, and not even the NBA wi

Oakland Police Department Hosts Open House May 4th

Another step in the Oakland Police Departments work to rebuild its relationship with the Oakland Community - and this is a good one. Read from Oakland Local : Meet Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan, his executive team, other members of the department and the different services they offer during OPD's first-ever open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. this Friday, May 4, at the Police Administration Building. In the past, OPD has come under a lot of scrutiny regarding its handling of the Occupy Oakland encampments and rallies. The department is working to regain the confidence of the community by becoming more open with the public and organizing events allowing the community to get to know those who vow to protect and serve in Oakland. The open house is a great opportunity to learn more about the department and get to know the people who are here to keep Oakland a safe and inviting place to live and visit. Doug Thornton On SMG And The Oakland Coliseum

My friend Doug Thornton, the man who saved the Louisiana Superdome, and who's SMG's Senior Vice President for Stadiums, sat down with me to talk about how the Coliseum has progressed since he came on the scene representing SMG in this capacity, and about the competition with AEG (known for developing LA Live) to run the Coliseum in the future - a brass knuckles showdown. Doug's home is New Orleans, but, and in recognizing his years of expertise and cool under pressure, SMG expanded his role to include their stadiums they manage, and that includes the Coliseum. In our talk, Doug was able to readily list the accomplishments of SMG at the Oakland Coliseum. "Things are going well at the Coliseum. Over the years, we have been able to decrease the operating losses by about 3-and-a-half-million dollars a year to the (Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority), by increasing our revenues from concerts and non-sports team bookings - about 1.8 million over that period.&

[caption id="attachment_16537" align="alignright" width="150" caption="Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan"] [/caption]Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan, concerned that the public has the wrong idea about the redeployment of what the City of Oakland calls "Problem Solving Officers", wrote "a letter to the community" which appears below. It essentially says that 35 police officers are still placed in each of the City's 35 police beats, but 22 officers were reassigned to what is called the Crime Reduction Team. That group works in the same 100 block area, but where Jordan's letter misteps a bit is in its explanation from there. What he should have said was that the officers were "wild" - could go wherever the threat is. (Well, maybe "wild" is not the best term to use in the wake of the OPD's "wild" reputation, most recently enhanced during the Occupy Oakland protests.) Here's

Oakland News: Why Kathy Neal Quit Assembly Race; Make Love Oakland!

The race for the California 18th District Assembly Seat currently held by the termed-out Sandre Swanson recently lost a candidate that this blogger thought had a chance because she was the only woman: Kathy Neal. The reason for Neal's departure, according to my sources, was simply that Neal didn't think she could win. "It was not enough support and not enough money," my source said. "She didn't want to just be in the race; she wanted to win it. After the poll, she didn't see a reason to stay in." The head of Kneal Resource System, former Port of Oakland Commissioner, and former wife of former Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris (Neal was married to Elihu when I was his economic adviser), Kathy was not only behind Rob Bonta ($161,883), Joel Young ($154,078), and Abel Guillen ($118,584) in contributions, but had came up third in one poll behind only Guillen, with Bonta, the Democratic Alameda councilman, out in front. Neal's departure makes the pos

California Grants Artesa Sonoma Approval For Environmental Preservation

The State Of California has just issued its Final Environmental Impact Report for the 173-acre vineyard owned by Artesa Winery in the Sonoma County town of Annapolis, Calif. Artesa Winery is wholly owned by the Codorniu Group, a family-owned company based in the Penedes region of Spain since the 16th Century. Ironically and sadly, a small and rather controversial group, "The Friends of Gualala River", is taking an anti-immigrant, anti-Spanish stand against the vineyard, even though Artesa and Codorniu Group, based in Spain, have gone out of their way to preserve and protect the entire property. In the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Chris Poehlmann, president of The Friends of Gualala River, which opposes the project, based his criticism on the Spanish origins of the small, family owned Codorniu, saying "This is a foreign corporation coming into the coastal forests of California wanting to cut down our forests for their corporate gain." Something not true at all

Kathy Neal Suspends CA 18th District Assembly Bid - Oakland

Kathy Neal has announced that she is now formerly the candidate for the 18th District California Assembly Seat, which represents a good portion of Oakland, California. Here's the letter Ms. Neal issued just moments ago: 18th Assembly District race. As the only woman in a field of three known candidates, she entered the race much later than her opposition yet garnered considerable traction. “I am proud of the progress we made in such a short period of time and greatly appreciate the help, partnerships, and backing that emerged from a widely diverse base of support. While I will not be an active participant in the race at this time, I will continue to be involved in state and local politics, because I am committed to improving the lives of those in our community, especially for those among us who are less fortunate or disenfranchised,” Neal said. Neal, who currently serves as the 16th AD Vice Chair of the Alameda County Democratic Party, has previously worked beyond the

Rick Bolander's Kajeet Changes Offerings To Add Smartphones

[caption id="attachment_15600" align="alignright" width="200" caption="Rick Bolander"] [/caption]Last year, this blogger blogged about Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist and Oakland Restaurant lover Rick Bolander, and his company called Kajeet. Now, since few still have heard of the firm with that funny name, Kajeet, here's the info from last year . If you’re a parent who’s wondered how to virtually corral the chance that your kids will use their cell phone for something called “sexting,” you’ve probably pounded your head in frustration. Well, there’s an answer: Kajeet, a cell phone service “for kids” located in Maryland, but funded by Silicon Valley investor Rick Bolander, who serves as managing partner. Bolander brought his experience in “working with digital content providers and service providers” to bear in his role in helping to form Kajeet. Why do I mention Rick Bolander first and before its CEO? Because under his direction, Kaje

AEG Should Not Run The Oakland Coliseum Stadium

AEG Should Not Run The Oakland Coliseum

The City of Oakland and Alameda County must reject AEG, the Anschutz Entertainment Group, from being even considered as stadium manager for the Oakland Coliseum, and for one reason: AEG does not have the best interest of the Oakland Coliseum in mind. Why would an organization openly court the Oakland Raiders to move to Los Angeles, work to buy a portion of the team at a cut-rate price (something that Colts Owner Jim Irsay has threatened to block), and yet turn around and even think to ask to replace SMG (Spectacor Management Group) as manager of the Oakland Coliseum? A one-word-answer: power. And its that interest in power that would wreck the Oakland Coliseum for the foreseeable future. Right now, the Oakland Coliseum, and the City of Oakland, is under a wave of negative sports industry PR not of its own making. The Oakland A's were making noise about leaving for San Jose. The Golden State Warriors have made noise about wanting a new stadium in San Francisco. And Oaklan

Ecuador Court Confirms $18 Billion Award Against Chevron

In an action that comes as no surprise to anyone, an Ecuador appeals court confirmed the decision by Ecuador to award an $18 billion damage award to Ecuador. Ecuador's court, long accused of bribery and beset with scandal, would not dream of going against the wishes of that country's President Rafael Correa. Consider that President Rafael Correa recently sued a popular local newspaper and its columnists and editors for $80 million, as I explain in this video, when the cost was just $10 million.... ...then took the "pledge" (if you will because those news guys don't have $80 million in their pockets) and attached it to the $116 million that he said would stop Ecuador from drilling in the Yasuni park region. And Correa has allowed his state-run oil company Petroecuador to continue oil drilling and environmental damage, and to the point where it and other foreign oil companies have committed over 100 oil spills since Chevron left the country in 1992.
